Toxic Plants: Hosta

It's something that doesn't usually cross our minds, but some common plants in our houses and around our gardens are in fact toxic to our furry friends.

Hosta

If you have shade in your yard, you probably have a host of hostas. These plants are very beautiful and come in a many different varieties. Many hostas are unbothered by dogs and cats, but the plant is toxic to both – so make sure your pet doesn’t have a taste for them. If your cat ingests any part of the hostas plant, they can experience symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. The toxic principle in these plants is Saponins.

You should consult your vet immediately if you have any concerns.

Tune in next Thursday for more information on toxic plants.
